Introducing: Ferals

Up and coming rock trio, Ferals, from Northen England, are growing rapidly in the music scene, having been invited into the studio with BBC. Having only been given birth to by vocalist and guitarist, Matt Dryden in 2012, this is an absolutely massive achievement for these guys.

So, how did they get to here so quickly? When Matt (Dryden) was joined by fellow Matt (Porter), a drummer he knew from High School, they immediately started working on some material in their hometown of Huddersfield. When they recorded their first track- White Gold at Luck Lane studios, it clearly got an extremely positive reaction and received plenty of airplay from BBC. This in itself is a massive step for a band who only started a few months prior, but it doesn't stop here. This obviously eager and determined group have just recorded and released their new track- Somersault, which long jumps right over their previous track.

With elements of a modern rock genre- with the upbeat guitar riffs sort of giving off a pop rock scent, but at times the rough texture of the guitar drags them into a category of older, more classic rock. Matt's beautiful vocals fluctuate between sounding on a par with the likes of The Blackout and even the clean vocals of Deaf Havana, but quickly shows a strong resemblance to The Smiths and The Cure with a raw, deep tone. Overall the track is extremely well structured which is executed beautifully; beginning with a slow fading effect, before becoming a booming melody of guitar and drums and then sinking into that perfect place where the bass (beautifully excelled by Corey Clough-Howard), and vocals take control.

Ferals are a band to watch. They have the ability to take an old sound, mash it with some modernised magic, and create something that anyone could only cherish. With a beautiful abundance of sounds in this new track, with the irresistible pull of Matt's voice, they're bound to be big. Keep an eye out for their acoustic performance on BBC Introducing to Pop on March 16th.
