Review: Langhorne Slim & The Law- 'The Way We Move'

Relatively known for his 2009 release Be Set Free, American singer songwriter Langhorne Slim, has since been joined by a band, and together they have managed to create something that many of us are lucky to have grace our ears.
The Way We Move begins with the title track of the album, and consists of raw, rustic guitar chords accompanied by an almost hollow drum beat. This track really is the perfect introduction to Langhorne Slim & The Law, based on the tone that's carried through the entire album. With clear influence coming from the mellow genre of blues, but cut up and stamped on by bands like The Clash and other folk-y punk groups.

Obviously with the exception of a few slow, melodic tracks such as Fire, On The Attack and Coffee Cups, it's the sort of album that you can imagine blaring out a car window during the roasting months of summer. This album most definitely benefits from the fact that it was cut live to tape; no over production trying to force a sound and a vibe that doesn't belong. The music these guys create is essentially a mix of the raw sounds of a variety of instruments propelled forwards by Langhorne's rustic, sharp voice.

When Song For Sid begins, it's enough on it's own to solidify what was described in The Rolling Stone as "...damn near perfect...". This track is a lot more simple than the rest of the tracks on the album in terms of the guitar riffs and the absence (for the most part) of the massive range that Langhorne's vocal chords stretch to. For me, this is, without a doubt, the winning track of the album. It's a perfect song to take the tone down down a notch from the energetic content these guys are acclaimed for.

In saying that, Coffee Cups isn't far behind it, with the simplistic sound of an acoustic guitar peaking through an unbelievably unique voice which is speaking honest, and clearly heartfelt lyrics.

The Way We Move is a top of the pile album which is beautifully projected by an abundance of distinctive sounds that fit together perfectly as Langhorne & The Law.

The Way We Move is set to be released in the UK on February 11th.
